Neighborhood Vibe
Established in the late 19th Century as one of Los Angeles's first suburbs, Angelino Heights (also spelled as Angeleno Heights) occupies the hillside adjacent to the eastern boundary of Echo Park Lake, south of Sunset Blvd, and north of the 101 freeway. This vibrant yet serene neighborhood offers beautiful hillside views and proximity to neighboring Downtown Los Angeles and Silver Lake.
Dominated by SFRs and 2-to-4-plexes on lots big and small, Angelino Heights has been safeguarded from modern developers by its 1983 designation as LA's first Historic Preservation Overlay Zone (HPOZ). Angeleno Heights offers a glimpse in time to architecturally significant examples of Craftsman, Mission Revival, and, especially, Victorian homes. The idyllic Carroll Avenue boasts the "highest concentration of Victorian Era residences", with several homes on the National Registry of Historic Places, and a couple of homes you may recognize from their roles in Michael Jackson's Thriller music video or late 90s-early aughts series Charmed.

While "The Hill" itself is almost 100% residential, pleasant escapes, distractions, and conveniences are never too far away.
Fun Stuff
Picnic with family and friends, ride on the iconic pedal boat swans, or simply enjoy the sights and scenes at Echo Park Lake (presently closed for beautification, as of writing). Go on weekdays for a more meditative experience or weekends if you prefer a bustling atmosphere complete with live music, entertainment, and vendors selling everything from artwork, handmade jewelry, or elotes made to order.
Just a block north of the Lake check out the weekly Echo Park Farmers' Market on Friday afternoons for locally-grown produce and artisan-made products.
This 1-mile stretch of Sunset Blvd is packed with restaurants, boutiques, and entertainment venues, a majority of them independently-owned.
Stories, with its eclectic selection of new and used books, is a great place to go if you know you want to read but you don't know what you want to read. Its attached cafe with outdoor tables make it an ideal spot to converse with local writers and artists or indulging in some #selfcare while reading the newest addition to your library.

For contemporary art head to Subliminal Projects, a multi-functional project space founded in 1995 by Sherpard Fairey, with a mission of expanding the forms and perspectives and accessibility of art, or Marta, a small gallery featuring emerging artists and thought-provoking exhibitions exhibitions
Get your pizza fix at Masa of Echo Park, a casual, family-owned restaurant with authentic Chicago deep dish pies, or at Nancy Silverton's Triple Beam Pizza, a counter-service pizza shop serving up Roman-style pizza al taglio (by the slice) from large, rectangular pizzas.
For lighter fare, Honey Hi is a cute gluten-free cafe offering healthy and fresh breakfast and lunch dishes as well as non-conventional lattes and smoothies.

No Echo Park experience would be complete without a taco or two. While options are aplenty, Guisados has made a name for itself as one of the best taco spots in a city full of great Mexican food. Born in nearby Boyle Heights in December 2010, Guisados serves homestyle braises on made-to-order corn tortillas.
Then there's Tsubaki, a Michelin-recognized izakaya from Chef Charles Namba and Courtney Kaplan with "Japanese roots and a California state of mind." Good enough for a special occasion, but unpretentious enough as a spontaneous weeknight choice, Tsubaki makes the most of seasonal California produce and offers one of the best sake lists in LA.
While the pandemic has definitely taken its toll on nightlife, Echo Park is poised to come back with a vengeance once the long-awaited "return to normalcy" happens. The Echo & Echoplex has introduced some of the hottest bands to the LA music scene and has hosted the likes of Beck, Green Day, Skrillex, Nine Inch Nails, LCD Soundsystem, Kendrick Lamar, Run The Jewels, Steve Aoki, Lorde, HAIM, & The Rolling Stones. Echoplex also hosts fun, themed dance party nights such as Club 90s, R&B, and emo nights.
If you're in the mood for a drink or few, check out The Gold Room or Short Stop for a divier atmosphere, or Bar Caló for their wide selection of mezcal (along with Mexican small plates).

And of course, just north of Sunset lies Dodger Stadium, one of the world's premier entertainment venues and home to the 2020 World Series Champion Dodgers.
